Veronica Frederick

President

Veronica Frederick, current President of Far Northwest Democrats, has been a Democratic activist since she was a teenager growing up in Louisiana. She moved to Texas when Ann Richards was Governor, and her commitment to electing Democrats up and down the ballot has remained consistent throughout the years. She was one of the founding members of the club, following her first term as a Travis County Precinct Chair in 2014, when Wendy Davis ran for Governor.

Veronica works as an Election Judge during every election to ensure voters are able to exercise their rights despite Texas’s complex voting laws.

Veronica has a long career in procurement at several high-tech companies in the Austin area, and she has served on the Bella Vista HOA Board since 2008, helping to control costs for the neighborhood.

A longtime resident of Austin then Cedar Park, Veronica enjoys gardening, boating on Lake Travis, and fostering dogs for Central Texas Dachshund Rescue.

Jean Swart

Vice President

Jean Swart serves as Vice President of the Far Northwest Democrats, bringing a background in engineering and community engagement.

A longtime supporter of Democratic values, Jean is active in grassroots organizing and advocacy. She also serves as Precinct Chair for Precinct 394 of the Travis County Democratic Party and Communications Director for Leander Democrats. She has contributed to local education initiatives through All In LISD and the District-wide Educational Improvement Council.

Since 2023, Jean has served as a Quality Assurance Chapter Lead at the University of Texas Applied Research Laboratories. Previously, she spent 14 years at AT&T, focusing on accessibility for people with disabilities.

Originally from Maryland, Jean moved to Texas for graduate school. After 20 years in Cedar Park, she moved to Leander in 2020, where she lives with her husband, Bryan, her mother, and their dog, Evie.

Melody Norsworthy

Secretary

Melody Norsworthy serves as Secretary of the Far Northwest Democrats, bringing decades of experience in Software Quality Assurance and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

After retiring from a career in Software Quality Assurance, Melody has continued to devote her time and energy to serving her community. She has been involved with numerous volunteer organizations throughout the Austin area, reflecting her belief that strong communities are built by people who are willing to give their time, skills, and compassion to help others.

Melody is passionate about service, community involvement, and making a positive difference in the lives of those around her.

Bryan Swart

Treasurer

Bryan Swart serves as Treasurer of the Far Northwest Democrats.

Bryan applies his professional discipline to managing the club’s finances and supporting its grassroots mission.

Bryan currently works at General Motors, where he has spent the past two years. Previously, he spent 21 years at AT&T, building a long career in the cybersecurity industry.

Originally from Oklahoma, Bryan moved to Texas to join AT&T. He lives in Leander with his wife, Jean, her mother, and their dog, Evie.

Kerry Stevens

Volunteer Coordinator

Kerry Stevens serves as Volunteer Coordinator of the Far Northwest Democrats and as Chair of the club’s Super Precinct. He is also the Travis County Democratic Party (TCDP) Chair of Precinct 388 and a Vice Chair of TCDP. He is Vice President of the Leander Democrats Club and was an early organizer of the coalition of Travis and Williamson County Precinct Chairs and volunteers in Leander under the name of Leander Democrats Together.

For the past 30 years, Kerry’s quest has been to create a more just and equitable community where all people can work, play, learn, and live to their full potential. Before directing that energy into the political world, he was focused on non-profit and faith-based organizations.

Kerry grew up as a country boy in Indiana, got an engineering degree from Purdue, and worked for IBM for 32 years before retiring in 2013. He’s lived in Texas for more than 40 years.
